At the cellular level, in order to exert its influence, nicotine must bind to cell surface receptors. One biochemical approach to preventing the interaction between nicotine and cell surface receptors is to occupy these receptors with a substance other than nicotine that does not exert the effects of nicotine. The patented thioglycerol compounds in Sulfonil have been shown to do just that--preferentially bind to nicotine cell surface receptor sites, thus preventing nicotine from attaching and subsequently minimizing the desire to smoke.
