I have big problems falling asleep and staying asleep since I have chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and a few other things that contribute. I have tried a lot of sleep-type products, but St Johns Wort actually gives results. I take 1-2 tablets before going to bed, and I get good quality sleep. SJW acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which means that it blocks the body's breakdown of serotonin so that the serotonin can be used where needed. Serotonin allows you to sleep better, as it's an important brain chemical. There are, of course, pharmaceutical versions of SSRIs that you can take for this condition, but I would much rather take a natural version like SJW and avoid the liver damage that comes with all pharmaceuticals.

I'm using St. John's Wort to treat/keep under control anxiety/depression. if it doesn't keep up, I'm adding 400 mg of SAM-e per day. anyway, 400 mg is still not enough, so they are a nice blend :P
