This product has Diphenhydraime, the active ingredient in Benadryl. Diphenhydramine is a medication used to treat allergies, but it has one major side effect, that of causing sleepiness. Therefore when you take this product you are actually taking an allergy pill, however, it will work to help you sleep too. The only draw-back to this product is that it gives a mild hang-over effect the morning after. I found that the effects last about 12 hours, so take it about an hour before bedtime and it cuts off an hour of sluggishness the following morning. Jim "Konedog" Koenig
