Before you curl your hair, shampoo, condition and apply a protective cream, spray or mousse to protect hair from heat. Blow dry in portions to remove tangles and then use the curling iron.

A curling iron with smaller barrel is good for small, tight curls and a larger barrel for bigger waves and loose curls. If you have short hair and want tight curls or just want to curl small portions or tendrils, a 3/8” barrel will be just right. For ringlets with medium length hair, go with a slightly bigger diameter.
