Winter brings deep reds, plums, and berry shades. Metallics are still in too, but richer in color. Most notable are the multiple silver and champagne shimmers that are up for grabs. Purple metallics resemble amethysts, greens like emeralds, and red metallics take on a ruby hue that could bedazzle anyone.
For those looking for something more subtle, brown is the color. (Maybe bring back OPI's Romeo and Joliet?) Taupes, light browns, dark browns, muted browns and more were produced by the major companies in the nail polish game for winter. Also making a surprising appearance this season is pink. And speaking of pink, it's not too bad of an idea to get some pink in your nail polish collection now since Pantone has declared Honeysuckle, a coral poppy color (or reddish pink), as the color of 2011.
Consider adding:
Bad quality nail polish can chip in as quickly as a day; quality nail polish might give you a couple weeks without any problems. There is no rule of thumb on how many days you should wear nail polish - it really is up to you. Fortunately for those who don’t like to take off their nail polish, the chipped polish look is in style right now. In fact, many salons across the country offer a chipped manicure.
If you want to apply a new color, it’s best to take off the old polish first. Adding the new color on top of your current color will only make your nail look uneven and bumpy. Most polish, even the best ones like OPI nail polish, will start to chip after the first week. If you want to keep the same color for as long as possible, reapply a top coat every other day until your nail growth makes it obvious that you need another manicure.
Have you ever seen a bottle of OPI nail lacquer and wondered, “What is the difference between nail polish and nail lacquer?”
Nail polish, nail lacquer, and even nail enamel are merely different marketing terms for essentially the same product.
Nail polish and nail lacquer can thus be used interchangeably.
What’s the different between generic and brand name products? A “generic” or “private label” product is created by the store that sells it, with the aim of competing against national brands that are advertised on TV. Manufacturing plants around the world can make almost any product for any company, and product sold under the same store brand can in fact come from a different plant.
Is that pricey bottle of Chanel polish exactly the same as the cheaper bottle of a hypothetical bottle of Target nail polish? It’s not uncommon for a national brand to create an off-brand, although typically the generic product is created in a non-competitive field. Thus, it probably isn’t likely that the two are one in the same, but the question remains difficult to answer.
The best thing to do is to search for specific reviews of different nail products, and to test them out for yourself.
