Lip Liner Pencil

Lipstick is a given when it comes to applying color on your lips, but what about the often forgotten lip liner? What exactly does lip liner do and do you need it? Lip liner is actually a great tool in your lip wardrobe. To read about exactly what it does for your lips check out the tips below.

• Lip liner can create a perfect base for your lipstick. You can line your lips and fill them in with a neutral, skin colored pencil to create a primer for lipstick or lip gloss.
• You can use a lip liner pencil to line and shade in your lips in any shade for a matte look without the need for lipstick. For a shinier look just add clear gloss on top.
• Lip liner helps prevent lip color (lipstick or lip gloss) from feathering and fading as lip liner is waxier then lipstick or lip gloss.
• If you’re wearing lip liner with lipstick make sure the colors match or are complimentary. Contrasting lip liner and lipsticks colors are a big no.
• Make sure your lips are moisturized prior to lip liner application.

Shaping outside your lips is a big no as it looks unnatural, harsh and obvious. However, you can use a lip liner pencil to help you redefine the natural shape of your lips. You can also use it to fill in your lips to make them look fuller before applying lipstick, creating a waxy base for your lipstick to stick to. Also, using a lighter colored lip pencil to define and fill will make your lips appear larger as well.

When lining your lips make sure to carefully outline right on top of your natural lip line and fill in from there. Do not outline outside your natural lip line as this will look very unnatural. Use light strokes as it will help you achieve a more natural look. Apply concealer around your lips with a small brush to make your lips stand out and to keep your lip color from bleeding.
